This is a marked moment of moving forward, no, flying forward into the digital cloud. Having seamless interoperability of devices and web content furthers the ability of consumers to access their data and entertainment when, where, and how they want it.
It will also force closed music and video platforms to rethink, again, the rationale behind using file formats that only work on a limited number of devices.
The consortium of Hollywood studios, retailers, service providers, and consumer electronics and information technology companies, called the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem, or DECE, is working on a "uniform digital media experience" but won't announce details until the Consumer Electronics Show in January.
